Resources: hippoVEND/SL Marketplace Sales Log Link

The hippoVEND/SL Marketplace Sales Log Link allows you to have your SL Marketplace sales also appear in your hippoVEND sales log. This means you can easily show all of your sales in the same place.

To use the Sales Log Link, you must ...

• Be a hippoVEND user
   
• And have an active hippoGROUPS subscription

Setting up the Sales Log Link

1. Visit the SL Marketplace and get yourself a fresh Magic Box. (You can use an existing Magic Box, but we recommend rezzing a fresh one just to host your Sales Log Link script).
    
2. Rez your new Magic Box inworld and name it something memorable, such as Sales Log Link Box.
    
3. Touch it and choose "Reset" from the menu that appears.
    

 
4. Right click your Magic Box and open its contents tab. Drag the ".hippoVEND Sales Log Marketplace Plugin" script which came with your Sales Log Link package to the contents list. It should chat that it's ready and confirm that you have a hippoGROUPS subscription.
    

 
5. Now you need to configure your "ANS Preferences". This has to be done through the old XStreetSL website. Click here to visit. You may need to login and you may also get a warning about the site no longer being active. (If you do, just ignore the warning and click "Cancel").
    
6. On that page, tick the "Purchase, using the following method" option as well as "Second Life Object". Pick the Magic Box you rezzed in step 2 from the pick list. Thirdly, tick "Allow me to Verify each Purchase notification".
    
7. Your options should look something like this:
    
   
    
   Click "Save Configuration".
    
8. All being well, the Sales Log Link should now be working. You can make a test purchase from the Marketplace to test it. When any future sales are made, the SL Marketplace will send the details of the sale to your new Magic Box where the Sales Log Link script will process it and add it to your hippoVEND sales log.

Working with Marketplace Sales in your Sales Log

Marketplace sales that appear in your hippoVEND sales log will look a little like this:

A few things to note:

• The icon after the price tells you this is a Marketplace sale. If you are currently logged into the Marketplace, you can click the icon to open the order summary for this sale.
   
• The location for any Marketplace sale will be recorded simply as "Marketplace".
   
• The price paid will be the sales price of the item on the Marketplace, before any Marketplace commissions were removed.

There are some new filtering criteria available in the sales log to easily identify Marketplace sales. Click the "Filter" button at the top right corner of the sales log and you will see you now have the option to filter and show only Marketplace sales, or to exclude Marketplace sales entirely from a sales log report.

Important Things to Note

There are a few important things to note about using the Sales Log Link.

• Please remember that the Marketplace and the Magic Boxes are third party services and items over which we have no control.
   
• Once the Sales Log Link is installed in a Magic Box, when you touch the Magic Box you will get a Sales Log Link menu as well as the Magic Box menu. From that menu, you can choose to reset the Sales Log Link script, check its status, or get further help.
   
• The Sales Log Link requires an active hippoGROUPS subscription. Please ensure your subscription is up to date, otherwise Marketplace sales will cease to be recorded. If your subscription expires and you renew, it can take up to 24 hours for the Magic Box to pick up the renewed subscription - resetting the Sales Log Link script (see above) will refresh the connection instantly.
   
• Be aware that product names in the Marketplace may be longer than product names in hippoVEND are permitted to be; if this happens, the Marketplace product name will simply be truncated in your hippoVEND sales log.
   
• Some merchants use different names for the same product inworld and on the Marketplace. If you do this and wish to harmonise them, you can use the "Rename" tool in the hippoVEND sales log. To do this, find an example of the product you wish to rename in your sales log. Click on it, to filter the sales log by that product. Finally, click "Rename" in the right-hand sidebar and follow the instructions.
