Resources: hippoVEND: Button Previews

The new ARROW PREVIEW MODE command in a vendor’s configuration notecard is designed to make a new type of vendor possible, for people who like customizing their vendor designs. Using it, we’ll show you how to turn a regular multi-panel vendor in vendor with no sub-panels, but with previews on the button face. (This tutorial assumes you’re familiar with the usual Second Life building tools).

  1. Rez a regular version 2 vendor and delete everything from it except the arrows, main panel, and the background.

  2. Modify the look of the arrows so that instead of being yellow prisms, they are plain white cubes. Don’t rotate them — the face at the front needs to remain the same. (In the picture below, we have also moved and resized them).

  3. If you unlinked the vendor in steps 1 or 2, make sure you now relink it so that the root prim remains the one with all the main vendor scripts in it.

  4. Edit the configuration notecard in the vendor and ensure that you have these settings and values:

    ARROW PREVIEW MODE: Yes
    SIDE PANELS: 0

  5. Close and save the configuration notecard. Click the vendor and choose “Reset” from the menu.

  6. Click the vendor a second time and choose “Download” to load its contents and bring it online. The result should look a bit like this ...

... the “arrow” buttons now show a preview of the product that clicking will bring onto the main panel.
