Resources: hippoRENT v5: Tracking Down Bad Passwords

hippoRENT objects inworld use passwords when networked; so, for example, a rental box, rental server and rental vendor contain the following Configuration Notecard command:

PASSWORD: <text>
e.g. PASSWORD: whoopsmybloomers

If the password is set incorrectly then email communications between items will fail and you’ll get a warning from the object that received the email with the wrong communication; like this:

hippoRENT Server 5.0 whispers: Communication received with wrong password set; it was ignored.

In hippoRENT v5, it’s now easier track down an object in which you’ve accidentally set the wrong password. Simply use this setting in a box, vendor, or server Configuration Notecard:

REPORT INVALID EMAIL DETAIL: Yes

This will cause the object to give full details of the location of anything communicating with it using the wrong password. For example, you’ll get a report like this:

hippoRENT Server 5.0: @ Hippo Technologies (186, 128, 500) reports: email received with a password that does not match mine ('mypassword') ... Object-Name: hippoRENT Rental Box 5.0 w/plugin; Object-Location: Hippo Technologies (186, 129, 50)

(This information is chatted securely inworld via owner-say, so avatars nearby other than the rental box owner will not overhear the password.)
