Resources: hippoRENT v5: Sending Messages to Tenants
Sending a message to a tenant on a rental box is easy (provided the rental box knows their key if you’ve entered the tenant name manually, it may take the box a few minutes to fetch it).
To send a message to a tenant, simply ...
- Click the box they’ve rented and choose “Voice Cmd” from the menu
- Type message followed by the message you wish to send. For example:
message Hello there! Did you know you’ve rezzed that tree on your lawn upside down?
The message will then be sent to the tenant and to their partner if the rental has a partner assigned.
Remember that instant messages from objects (like a rental box) appear in the Second Life chat window and that if the tenant is in busy-mode, they will miss the message.
There are some other neat tricks with this command:
- Use the -t prefix to send a message only to the tenant. e.g. message -t Ssssh, your partner’s ugly!
- Or the -p prefix to send it only to the partner; e.g. message -p Hello, sailor!
-
You can also use the tags <name>, <rental> and <location> in a message and the rental box will substitute the recipient name, rental location name and Second Life location of the box respectively, saving you a little typing. E.g.:
message Hello, <name>, thanks we hope you like <rental> at <location>. Pay for two more months and we’ll give you a 10% discount!
Sending a Message From a Rental Server
You can also send this command from your rental server. Simply click it, choose “Voice Command” and then type something like:
box 2 message Hello, <name>, can you pay your rent before I come for your bunny with a saucepan!
If you’re using the web-enabled version of hippoRENT, you can sign-up for hippoGROUPS and open up many more advanced possibilities for sending messages to tenants including attachments if you wish.
